DNA and Cells

The invention of the microscope revealed that living things are made of trillions of tiny, specialised units that we eventually called ‘cells’.

Each cell coordinates with millions of its neighbours to perform the everyday functions of our lives. Their perfect synchronisation contracts our muscles, filters our blood, repairs our bruises, and even perceives the universe through our senses.

Internally each cell is a universe of chemical interactions, but deep inside lies the secret to all of life. DNA.

DNA is the modern day ancestor of the original living thing that appeared on Earth 4 billion years ago.

At its core, life is matter that can retain its complexity and reproduce.
